Anxiety is an underlying problem for many of the children we see in our daily work. This workshop will explore play therapy interventions as a way of teaching clients to take care of anxiety-provoking situations. Participants will try out interventions for relaxation, externalization and resolution of anxiety. By the end of this workshop, the participant will be able to: 1) Cite at least 3 presenting problems in a referral for play therapy that may have anxiety as a co-existing, or even as the root problem. 2) Identify at least 2 play therapy interventions for relaxation, for externalization, and for resolution of anxiety. 3) Come up with a plan that a client could use that utilizes play therapy techniques to minimize anxious responses to triggering situations. "Flexible Play Therapy in Trauma Treatment"

Flexibility in Play Therapy: filling your tool box with the best from prescriptive, trauma focused, cognitive behavioral play therapy, multi-sensory and expressive play therapy approaches to meet each client's needs.

Paris' learning objectives are:

1. After the session, participants will be able to describe the components of the FSPT model.

2. After the session, participants will be able to list five strategies for helping clients build narratives that combine the linguistic narrative with sensory material.

3. After the session, participants will be able to describe five practical strategies for soothing the physiology of traumatized children.

4. After the session, participants will be able to delineate five play therapy interventions that counter cognitive distortions.

5. After the session, participants will be able to articulate the role of parents in co-regulating their children.
